Season opener cancelled, Administration looking for replacement opponent

It didn’t take COVID-19 long to start upsetting the 2020 football season. Superintendent Mike White has announced that the Mount Ida Lion’s season openers against Danville have been cancelled.

In a press release emailed this afternoon Superintendent White stated that both junior high and senior high match ups scheduled for this Thursday and Friday respectively have been cancelled.

While no reason for the cancellation was given in the press release, COVID-19 was indicated as playing a role in the cancellations in text messages with administration.

Superintendent White stated that they are currently reaching out to AAA office to find a replacement opponent who has been the victim of a cancellation this week.

Superintendent White’s statemen is printed below.

We regret to inform you that Danville has cancelled both the junior and senior high football games for this week on the dates of Thursday 8/27 and Friday 8/28.  We are currently in the process in working with the Arkansas Activities Association to find another opponent who also may have also had a cancellation if possible.  We will keep the community informed on this situation and get information out if an opponent is found.

Sincerely,

Michael White

Superintendent/ Athletic Director

Mount Ida School District
