MOUNT IDA – The Mount Ida High School Class of 2020 will finally have an opportunity to participate in a graduation ceremony according to an announcement made by school administrators during their most recent school board meeting.
Superintendent Mike White discussed setting a date for graduation with a tentative date scheduled after July 1 per guidelines set by state officials.
A tentative date for an outdoor graduation ceremony has been set for July 10 at 7:30 p.m. The event will be held at the football field to allow for easier implementation of social distancing protocols. A rainout date of July 11 was also set.
Familiar faces in new positions are coming as Mount Ida alumnus TJ Wilson was hired as the new boys basketball coach, filling a role most recently held by Jansen Hardage.
Wilson, a 2016 graduate of Mount Ida High School, joined the district last month to fill the role of Elementary School PE Coach. Wilson was a stand out athlete in basketball, as well as baseball and football while attending Mount Ia.
He was hired last Tuesday evening to fill the boys basketball coaching position vacated by Jansen Hardage who has accepted the same position at Poyen High School. Mount Ida was Hardage’s first head coaching position. A position he held for two years.
The board also accepted the resignation of Charles “Tripp” Rowton as head softball coach, assistant football coach and science teacher.
Leah Childers was hired as First Grade Teacher for the upcoming year.
The board agreed on a district waiver to do business with Print Mania. Board member Jeremy McCullough left the meeting for the vote. A letter has been sent to the commissioner for final approval.
Superintendent Mike White publicly thanked John Pollock and True Value of Mount Ida for donating five boxes of N95 masks to the district.
