MOUNT IDA – “Boots, Rings, and Show Rings” will be on display at the Montgomery County Fair next week. Festivities begin Sunday afternoon with the annual fair parade making it’s way through downtown Mount Ida.
The parade is set to begin at 3 p.m. this year with participants gathering at the Mount Ida High School Campus. The parade will make its way along George Street by the courthouse and then circle up East Street where it will continue west on Whittington Street.
Everyone is encouraged to participate. You can bring a float, ride a horse, bicycle, or ATV. This year all pageant and rodeo royalty contestants are required to participate in the parade.
Pageant contestants will then make their way to the fairgrounds for their interviews at 4 p.m. with the rodeo royalty competition being held at 5 p.m.
The Montgomery County Fair Pageant and Talent Show returns to a one night schedule with all categories competing Monday beginning at 6:30 p.m. Young ladies from ages 0 to 23 years old will compete in nine categories Monday night. There is an entry fee for the pageant. Adult admission is $5 and student admission is $3. Children ages five and under get in free.
BINGO will be held Tuesday from 6 – 8 p.m. It will be open to all ages with boards costing 25 cents each.
The fair will start a little early for exhibitors with most exhibit entries being dropped off from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday. The Horticulture and Baked Goods entries will be submitted Wednesday morning just before the judging begins.
The exhibit building will open to the public Wednesday from 3 – 8 p.m. It will be open from 12 -8 p.m. Thursday and Friday and will be open Saturday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Rabbit and poultry judging will be held Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. All livestock judging will be done Thursday beginning at 5 p.m.
The Snow Rodeo Company returns to the Montgomery County Fairgrounds this year for the annual rodeo. The rodeo will be held Friday and Saturday night beginning at 7:30 p.m. The rodeo will begin with the popular mutton-busting and will include all the popular rodeo events like calf roping, bull riding and steer wrestling.
There will not be a gate admission for the fair this year, but there will be a $5 admission to the rodeo each night.
