The Caddo Hills 4th Grade Class were treated to a party last Thursday to help celebrate their second place finish in the Arkansas Digital Learning Day video competition. Their second place video, “The Tribal Tour,” featured students talking about Native American tribes they found to be interesting.
Caddo Hills seniors Taylor Allen and Nallely Lopez helped the 4th graders construct a video for Digital Learning Day 2020 which showcased essays and crafts the created related to the Native American tribes they chose to study. The video was part of an essay writing exercise in which the students participated.
The 4th graders wrote five paragraph opinion essays about which Native American tribe they would like to live. They also painted and wove patterns to represent Native American Art. The students also created museum capsules filled with Native American artifacts. Participants in the video were chosen by their classmates.
The competition is sponsored by Arkansas Division of Elementary and Secondary Education, Arkansas O.M.I., Digital Learning Day 2020, EAST Initiative and Arkansas Digital Sandbox.
Cindy Wilkinson represented the Arkansas Department of Education in presenting a 2nd Place Plaque to the Caddo Hills 4th Graders. She stated that there were over 70 entries from across the state with Caddo Hills finishing second place. Wilkinson shared that she has personal ties to the community. Her parents and grandparents had lived in Norman.
Justin Neel, Bailey Black, Erica Johnson, and Amanda Bailey helped create the video. This was the first year Caddo Hills has participated in this competition.
